Utilizing the reactions of Ta/W polyoxometalate (POM) [P2W15Ta3O62]9− and rare-earth ions (RE), a convenient and controllable approach for preparation of a family of RE-POMs has been developed and further optimized to prepare nanocrystals and aggregates of these compounds. They exhibit remarkable heterogeneous catalytic activity for the cyanosilylation of a number of aldehydes/ketones with TMSCN.
